The day that we finally got to go look at houses, I was beyond excited. Which was a little bit dampered when I woke up to a damn snow storm and realized I had to take the train to work. And then it continued to snow for the rest of the day. But a snow storm wasn't stopping us!
We met our realtor at the first house and tromped through the snow to see it. It had a great yard, a super nice kitchen and decent sized rooms. But the bedrooms were kind of a weird setup and there was nowhere to put our beautiful dining room table. Overall, it had a great feel and the location was nice though. And now I feel like I'm on House Hunters talking like this....
After seeing that first house, I realized that having an actual dining room was way more important than I had originally thought. We love to have people over- our weekly friend dinners and my immediate family- meaning we had to be able to fit at least our 6 person table.
We headed into the second house and I was initially kind of weirded out when the selling agent was there to show the house to someone else because she didn't realize someone else was coming to look at it. The house had a nice living space and gorgeous hardwood floors, but a tiny kitchen/no dining room, no finished basement and more weird bedroom setup.
After each house, Doug and I were writing pros/cons on notecards. After the first two, the first house was definitely winning. But then we pulled up the the 3rd house. It was the original house we had fallen in love with right down the street from my brother. We had already creeped around the house- it was vacant so we were able to walk around the yard, check out the deck and look in the windows.
We walked in and the good feeling we had when looking at it online was still there. And as we walked through the house, it continued. Each room was better than the last. The half finished basement was huge. There was a huge dining room for our table. The kitchen was updated. And that deck?? I was still in love with it.
After the walk through, we really thought it could be the house. After talking to the realtor, we decided to schedule another viewing to go back with some family and friends who had more experience with home buying to take a look around. We didn't want to be blinded by the house and make sure weren't missing anything.

You guys. Have you ever read a blog and been like “This girl is awesome. I want to be best friends with her because she is so damn funny.” Well that’s how I feel about Jess over at Pleas[e] and Carrots. I just feel like her posts are so natural and like I’m actually talking to a friend. And we have a lot of random things in common.
We both get mistaken for being WAY younger than we actually are. All. The. Time.
Neither of us liked our roommates freshman year. Though quite honestly, mine was a walk in the park compared to hers!
We’re giant klutzes and get random injuries.
And while I like to think I’m funny, Jess by far takes the cake on that one. Like the time her rape alarm wouldn’t stop going off in a McDonalds and she had no idea the noise was coming from her? Or the Kenny Angel?? If you do nothing else, please read this post on the Kenny Angel because it still makes me giggle. Or her most embarrassing moments? Or when she was little and told everyone not to worry about her cousin farting? HILARIOUS.
Basically, what I’m saying is if Jess and I ever met in real life, it would be awesome and we would be best friends. Duh.
Plus, if we were real life friends, maybe I would get to go to the lake with her, which looks like basically the most amazing way to spend a weekend ever.
So make sure to click on over and check her our!
