House Hunting Journey: Meeting our Realtor

As I already shared, we're buying a house! And we're so incredibly excited about it. For us, the whole process started about a month ago. I'm still a little in shock about how quickly everything went. I wanted to wait until we were for sure on a house before I started sharing our process. But I have a few posts drafted up to share the process with you!

Step #1- Meeting Our Realtor

When we first knew we wanted to look for houses, we reached out to a few friends to see if they had any referrals. It was at this time that our friend Christina told us her mom was a realtor. I had met her at Christina's bachelorette party and again at their wedding, and liked her, so we reached out to her right way.

When Doug's old roommate bought his current house, he used a random realtor who kind of made my skin crawl. So I was more than thrilled to work with a close friends parent. Someone who I knew would look after us in our first home buying experience.

Doug hadn't met her yet, so we set up a meeting to talk about what we wanted in a house, where we wanted to look, and all those general questions. And when we left that meeting, Doug felt just as confident as I did in her ability to help us through the process. After talking with her, we knew she would help us through the process, the same as she would if she was working with her daughter and son-in-law.

Choosing a realtor isn't easy. Buying a house is a damn big decision, and you need someone helping you through the process who has your best interests at heart. This shouldn't just be about their commission, but about finding the perfect house for you. And thankfully, even after only one meeting, we knew that we had found our realtor.
