Here's another one of the horror stories going around about how Obamacare is going to destroy your life and force everyone to listen to Nickelback.
This is the Real Ashley Dionne, "Objectivist, writer, movie geek, aspiring actress, and freedom-loving American" 26, from Michigan, who writes in her Tumblr:
What she'll actually be laying out is $217 a month; the extra $2,356 then comes back to her in the form of a big fat annual tax refund. Sorry! I'm sure like any capitalism-loving Objectivist she can budget accordingly. (I'm a dumb liberal, so I can never manage to capitalize on any of those tax-credit programs.)
Oh, but wait! As a freedom-loving Objectivist I'll bet Ashley smokes cigarettes! Ayn Rand did, right? She needs to smoke those cigarettes to show everybody how she's exempt from all those stupid norms followed by the sheeple who believe tobacco smoke causes cancer! That would explain the $319 premium; the company is allowed to make you pay more now because chances are they'll have to pay more later. That's how insurance works, as I'm sure she learned at U of M. And she won't get that extra back in the big fat refund.
Oh, but wait wait wait! After holding out for practically forever, totally freedom-loving Michigan governor Rick Snyder has finally relented and decided to take that free money the Feds offered him to expand the Medicaid program! Yay Michigan! It's now available to single adults earning $15,500 or less, and that sounds like our Ashley!
Honey, you're gonna be getting socialized medicine for free, just like Ayn Rand (who loved her Medicare some and proved that it was all Objectivist to accept it, socialism and all)!!! And you don't even have to stop smoking!! You can rape your own damn future, how do you like that? Or not, I mean smoking doesn't kill everybody, does it?

My name is Ashley Dionne and I’m a 26-year-old recent graduate from Michigan.I did her numbers here: With that job, she has a gross annual income of around $12,800. Supposing she lives in Ann Arbor and doesn't smoke, she qualifies for a subsidized annual premium of $256, or a little over $21 a month. Less than a third of what she is paying now. And the maximum deductible allowed by law will be $2,250 That's for a higher end Silver plan, which she probably wants, with her chronic health problems; the cheapest Bronze plan will cost her $0.00, but she'll pay a higher deductible. The $6000 deductible somebody told her about is for a Catastrophic plan which she would only take if she was completely insane, since she can get a better plan for free.
The phony Obamacare signup poster boy made me want to send a message about how Obamacare is really affecting people. [jump]
I graduated from The University of Michigan in 2009. In my state, this used to mean something, but even with a bachelor’s I was told I was too educated and wouldn’t stay. I watched as kids with GEDs and high school diploma’s took the low-paying jobs for which I applied.
I went back to school and got a second degree and finally found work at a gym. I work nights and only get 32 hours a week for eight dollars an hour. I’m unable to find a second job at this time.
I have asthma, ulcers, and mild cerebral palsy. Obamacare takes my monthly rate from $75 a month for full coverage on my “Young Adult Plan,” to $319 a month. After $6,000 in deductibles, of course.
Liberals claimed this law would help the poor. I am the poor, the working poor, and I can’t afford to support myself, let alone older generations and people not willing to work at all.
This law has raped my future.

Winnie Langley, who smoked for more than 95 years and only gave up because she could no longer see the end of a match, has died a month short of her 103rd birthday. |
