If I have a question, she's the one I go to. A life dilemma? Her advice is the persons I seek. If something exciting happens in life, I can't wait to call her and tell her. I'm so happy that my parents frequently visit.
My mom definitely has a distinct personality. Something that sets her apart so much from others, and what makes her the most amazing woman I know.
Top 5 Things That Make my Mom Awesome
1. She uses phrases like "Built like a brick shithouse" and "Shit or get off the pot" on a regular basis. That last one was said to both my brother and I after 4-5 years in our relationships in terms of marriage. Thankfully we both ended up marrying those individuals!
2. My mom is the least girly-girl that I know. She is strong and beautiful, but doesn't feel the need to go out of her way to doll herself up with ridiculous amounts of makeup or spend hours on her hair. And I'm so glad she raised me this way!
3. She is much happier being outside chopping firewood, gardening, sweeping chimneys, stomping through the woods, etc... than anything else. These things for her mean "relaxation." Seriously- she emailed me on vacation and said they got to chop wood. On vacation.
4. She is the most loving mother and grandmother. But she isn't one to coddle, and this is something I can more appreciate now that I see how she acts with my nieces and is sure to act with my children one day. When little kids fall, and everyone freaks out over them, they tend to over react. Not my mom...if my niece or my cousin's daughter falls, Mom helps them up, makes sure they are ok and moves on. No baby talk, no over reacting. To some this may sound cold- but I think this attitude helped me grow up to be a strong, independent woman who doesn't have to rely on others. And I hope that one day, she passes on that same trait to my children.
5. My mom is seriously one of the smartest women I know (right up there with my Grandma). She has a wonderful sense of humor. She is strong and independent. She is an amazing friend. She is an wonderful wife (35 years for my parents!) and a perfect role model for my own marriage.
And yes I know, I just shoved like 5 things in to #5, but I do what I want.

Also a quick shout out to my cousin Shana, whose birthday is also tomorrow. She is currently serving in the Army, stationed in Hawaii at the moment, but likely to be deployed soon. Happy birthday girl! So proud of you :)
