A Favorite Memory

When I first looked at the Blogtember prompts, I knew that I would love todays. I knew that writing about it would bring a serious smile to my face, and even possibly tear up a little. To this day, it's still one of my favorite memories.

It doesn't have to do with my husband. Or my nieces. Though the days that those people came into my life are pretty amazing and I would be totally fine reliving them over and over. I mean who wouldn't want to relive their wedding day, when they got to marry the love of their life and be surrounded by family and friends? This girl sure would.

Someday I will stop throwing wedding pictures at you.
Today is not that day.

But that's not this memory.

This memory is of my arrival back in the United States after spending 10 months in the Czech Repbulic. Now don't get me wrong- I loved living in the Czech Republic, but it was a rough year. Living with a family who didn't really want me there; trouble making friends at school; missing my family and friends so much it hurt.

After multiple flights and multiple layovers, I was finally on the short flight from Chicago to Cleveland. Surrounded by businessmen in their suits, taking their quick commuter flight. I ended up in the last row, last seat of the plane. So was the last person off the plane when we landed. I don't think I could have been more excited. The stewardesses were all laughing at me- though fully understood when I told them what was going on.

In Cleveland's airport, the baggage claim is down an escalator. And this is the first place people can wait for you. As I was going down the elevator, I knew to expect two of my best friends- Courtney and Brittni, and my Aunt Liz (my parents were actually still in Europe- having just visited me a week earlier).

What waited for me at the bottom of that elevator though was not only the three of them, but also 4 more of my best friends. A total surprise.

The emotions that happen when you see friends for the first time in 10 months? After missing them and writing letters to them and occasionally getting to talk on the phone, but never for long enough? The hugs with those friends when you finally get to see them again?

Nothing better.
