As I said, I loved our honeymoon, but there were some things I would have changed if we were to do it again.
The Good
- We saw two shows when we were in Vegas- Penn and Teller (was hilarious and definitely worth seeing) and Cirque du Soleil LOVE, the Beatles show- which was beyond amazing and incredible! We almost ended up going to see a second Cirque du Soleil show, and I still wish we would have. It was really that good- the Beatles music didn't hurt!
- Mandalay Bay was a great place to stay- it's a huge hotel with a huge number of restaurants and stores, as well as a big pool area with a wave pool and lazy river (Though really Mandalay? You can't provide inner tubes for free??). The hotel is at the far end of the strip so it was quieter, but there are also tons of buses/shuttles/trams to make it easy to get anywhere.
- The food was delicious everywhere we ate. Our favorite meal (and our one big splurge meal) was at Rick Moonen's RM Seafood in Mandalay Bay. Crab cakes, crab legs, scallops and a bottle of wine...mmmm.

- We also discovered that Happy Hour is definitely the way to go in Vegas in terms of food and drinks. Besides our one nice meal above and a horrible mistake of a buffet, we did almost every other dinner as happy hour. Deals on food and booze made it easy to try different places that would have been really expensive for dinner.
- Drinking on the street- I loved that about Vegas. The first thing we almost always did as we started our trek down the strip was grab an ice cold beverage to help battle the 90 degree weather
Two beers is obviously the way to go. I love this man :) |
- Now besides the one shitty meal we had (the buffet at The Rio before Penn and Teller...was horribly over priced and the food quite honestly sucked), none of our experiences in Vegas were bad. This is more speaking about the trip as a whole. But 6 days in Vegas is a long time. You can only play so many slot machines (which we only did for free drinks) and all the casinos start to look the same after a while. Looking back, I wish we would have ventured off the Strip and out of the city- maybe a day trip to Hoover Dam or something.
- Additionally, while we love to go out and drink as much as the next guy, when it was just the two of us, going out to overly priced, super loud clubs and bars just didn't sound that much fun. So besides the nights we had shows, we normally ended up heading back to the hotel a little earlier than we were expecting.
- Part of me still really wishes we had gone all inclusive. Up front the cost for Vegas wasn't as high (we got a great deal on our hotel/flights through Expedia), but what we ended up paying for drinks/dinner/entertainment definitely added up. Guess we'll just have to go all inclusive for an anniversary :) Unfortunately not our first since we have four weddings in September and I have a work event.
