End the slave power—exterminate the Hutts! |
Mongols?
David Limbaugh:
"But despite all that, no other race has ever fought a war for the purpose of ending slavery, which we did," the radio host opined. "Nearly 600,000 people killed in the Civil War. It's preposterous that Caucasians are blamed for slavery when they've done more to end it than any other race, and within the bounds of the Constitution to boot."
Who were those Caucasians fighting against in the American Civil War? Remind me!

Old Senator McCain was shocked, shocked to learn that the Obama administration was using the figure of Theodore Roosevelt (in his reincarnation as Washington Nationals mascot) to promote the Obamacare launch coming this fall (the Obama administration apparently thought this would be reasonable, just because the Colonel supported universal health care).
Come to think of it, though, McCain might be right: the Bull Moose platform called for a
National Heath Service alongside
federal regulation of interstate corporations, the conservation of natural resources, graduated inheritance taxes, and women’s suffrage. It also called for industrial health and safety standards, the prohibition of child labor, a minimum wage for women [!], compensation for industrial accidents, injuries, and occupational diseases, and “the protection of home life against the hazards of sickness, irregular employment and old age through the adoption of a system of social insurance.”
And to TR the modest protections offered by the Affordable Care Act against its bribes to gigantic financial trusts, in the context of the retrenchment of progressive legislation that has been going on since 1980, would seem awfully thin.

Another one of Paula Deen's best friends, Ineata Jones (known as "Jellyroll"), ringing in the diners at a Deen restaurant. New York Times. Not in it for the money, just loves show business. |
It's never about race!New York Times:
That is where the two women’s stories diverge. Ms. Deen, through her publicity team, offered a statement denying all of Mrs. Charles’s accusations: “Fundamentally Dora’s complaint is not about race but about money. It is about an employee that despite over 20 years of generosity feels that she still deserves yet even more financial support from Paula Deen. ”
Right—the fact that that woman wanted to be paid as much as white folks got shows that she's purely mercenary.
Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, are these the legs of a valedictorian?Atlantic Wire:
"Some [undocumented immigrants] are valedictorians, and their parents brought them in," [Iowa representative Steve] King said. "For everyone who's a valedictorian, there's another 100 out there that weigh 130 pounds and they’ve got calves the size of cantaloupes because they're hauling 75 pounds of marijuana across the desert."
My favorite response was this sweetly insane one from the surrealist blogger otherwise known as
Another Kiwi:
And as Georg Friedrich Händel said, All we like sheep.
