And then I got my license. And I had to drive in this shit. And I realized that it sucks. The first time I drove in the snow, I slide off the road, straight into a swamp. I was completely unharmed, as was my car (well not true. Long story short- car totaled, towed to junkyard, junkyard owner fixed it, drove it for 4 more years). And all this happened about 5 miles away from my parents house.
Thankfully Athens was always in a bubble where in didn't snow. And if it snowed- I didn't have to drive anywhere. I was able to walk everywhere and that was perfect for the total spaz like me. And then Cleveland happened. For the first year I lived in Cleveland, the rapid ran in front of my apartment so I was able to hope on the train into downtown to work without ever stressing about it. And then I moved to a different place...One that was about 1 mile from the closest rapid stop.
But one mile was a whole hell of a lot better than the 9 mile drive downtown with all the crazies that drive in Cleveland. And in the snow- I'm totally one of those crazies. I'll drive 5 mph and piss everyone off around me. Knowing this about myself, I stay off the road when it snows. Well mostly off the road.
On crazy snow days, I drive 1 mile to the rapid stop, take the train downtown, a bus to E40th and walk the 5 blocks to my office. And normally that's fine. But when it's (with windchill) negative degrees...and my train has been cancelled and replaced with a bus for part of the route. That's a work from home day. Which is what happened today.
My car after shoveling it off this morning And yes...shoveling...way too much to use the brush. |
