So I have been relatively off the grid for the past two days. Because I was injured while building a tent with my almost two year old niece. Yes, injured. Enough that I was out of work for two days and stuck sitting at home in the dark. You see, in the process of building a tent and pretending to take a nap, she whispered "Hi Marg" and reached up to pat my face and poked me in the eye.
At first, I just laughed it off- it hurt, but it no more than any other time I have been poked/poked myself in the eye. I went to bed on Monday night- only to awaken at around 12:30 in serious pain. I could barely keep my eye open, yet at the same time, I couldn't stop blinking and it hurt so much. I manged to sleep on and off for the rest of the night with a washcloth over my eye to prevent it from blinking.
I woke up Tuesday morning with my dear husband at 6am and told him what was going on. He proceeded to read no less than 12 websites about eye injuries, look up a few eye doctors and tell me he would make me an appointment for later that day. Which he not only did, but he left work, and drove me to and from the appointment.
I had a tear on my eye. A little more serious than a scratch, but still something that would heal within 24-48 hours (eye's are seriously cool- they heal so quickly). I had to put eye drops with steroids and antibiotics in my eye every 3 hours- though it normally turned into 3 1/2 because for at least 30 minutes I had to work up the nerve to put the drop in...I hate eye drops. And I spent two days on the couch- most of the first day sleeping because watching TV, looking at my computer screen or doing anything on my phone hurt my eye.
So yes- I missed two days of work because I was poked in the eye. It is like 99% better now...just a little blurry. So while it sucked for those two days, that 4 minutes of tent building with my niece was worth it because she was being adorable and cuddly and oh so cute.
And I'm not going to put any photos on this post because all it would be is a gross blood shot eye that no one really wants to look at anyway. Thankfully it doesn't look like that anymore.
