Eee! Yes, that is meant to be a squeal of excitement. Because as of last night, I am now an engaged lady. I have a fiance and yes, that is insanely weird to say. But onto the exciting part...how it happened (sorry if long and wordy...still rather excited!)
We have pretty awesome friends, who helped set the whole thing up. I was convinced I as going out to eat with some girl friends to celebrate my friend Ryan's birthday. So in preparation for a fun dinner with the girls, I dyed my hair, and then ran over to the BF's house to get my blow dryer that I had left there.
His roommate was home and wouldn't let me go up . I was completely confused about why I wasn't allowed upstairs, and it may have briefly crossed my mind that something was going to happen. I texted to ask what was going on, but he said he had no idea and told me about his evening at work.

I got to the restaurant (Melt...yummm) early, the whole time texting with my friends about where the were and how soon they were going to get there. I waiting for the girls, when the BF walked around the corner. Considering as of 5 minutes earlier, I still thought he was at work AND the girls played it off so well that they were on their way to meet me, I was shocked! We had dinner, nothing eventful happend. And he managed to play off the fact that I wasn't allowed upstairs is because he had bought me flowers but decided not to bring them to the restaurant.
We got back to his house to watch the Wednesday night TV shows (oh Modern Family and Happy Endings, I love you). Now you have to understand...the first thing I ever do after getting home in the evening is to immediately go put in sweats and a t-shirt. For some reason last night, I just walked in and sat on the couch. After a few minutes of sitting there, the BF asked if I wanted to go up and change. The boy knows the way to my heart is through my sweats.
So up we go, and as I open the door to his room, I see the bed is covered with rose petals that say Marry Me, with a heart, and the ring sitting in the middle.
Seriously? Is this real life? |
And then he did the whole getting down on one knee thing and asked me to marry him. After being stunned into complete silence (and one or two "are you kidding me"s) and starting to cry, I said yes! He had a bottle of champagne in the fridge, which we shared with his roommate (who deserved some after helping keep the surprise). I, of course, called my parents, brother, sister-in-law, friends, etc etc...and posted on Facebook for insane amounts of comments. I finally forced myself to go to bed- though I was way too excited to sleep!
My ring!! It is my great grandma's engagement ring- so somewhere around 85 years old. |
I can't help but smiling when I look at these pictures! Happy happy!
Sidebar: Whenever the BF and I would watch movies or shows where people did things with rose petals, he would complain about how impractical it was and that no one would ever want to clean that mess up. It was so perfect that that is what he actually did!
